12 Blogs of Christmas: #7

Last year I set my New Years resolutions on this blog. They were not successful… unless you count 25% as a success rate. So, with an aim of improving on that record, here I go with resolutions for 2011…

  1. Blogging. This was my only success of last year, I promised to write a blog every day and, while I admit that there were a few days that escaped the target, I still managed (across both blogs) to deliver over 365 posts. This year I am starting with both blogs still in operation and so I am setting myself a new target. At least 300 posts on this blog and at least 100 on my other blog. This, I hope, will give me the flexibility to miss a few days without feeling guilty but still give me something to shoot for. The count begins below.
  2. Reading. Abject failure last year. I always used to read dozens of books when I was younger: It was probably something to do with not having a great deal of choice of things to watch on TV. These days I hardly read books at all. Magazines: yes. Websites: yes. Even newspapers: occasionally. But books: hardly ever. Last year I promised myself I would read one fiction book and one non-fiction book each month, but I didn’t even get close. This year will be more manageable… 15 books. Each reviewed here after I finish it and comic books won’t count.
  3. Writing. I promised myself I would do this last year, but didn’t. National Novel Writing Month is a challenge to write 50,000 words of prose in the thirty days of November. There is a website that helps organise people and I am going to join in and give it a go. I did have a stab at the sister challenge of Script Frenzy where the challenge is for 100 pages of script in the thirty days of April, which I may attempt as well (I managed 67 last year).
  4. Monthly Resolutions. 365 days is a long time when you are stood at Day One. Therefore, I have had an idea to have monthly resolutions. From 1st February 2011, I will come on to this very website and set myself a goal for the month. It may be fitness related, or blogging challenges like my Photo-a-Day that I did in August last year, or even movie going or TV watching challenges. Who knows?! Your ideas, of course, are welcome in the comments. I should really set myself a challenge for January, so I will add something to the sidebar later on.

And that’s it. Four new year’s resolutions, with an inbuilt opportunity for flexibility thanks to, quite frankly, brilliant idea for number four there. Here’s hoping for a better than 25% score.
