Last day of the sixteen-day festive holiday is here and thoughts turn to getting the house back into some kind of decoration-free state of normality and trying to remember exactly how to set the alarm clock. Due to some horrific piece of planning on my part, I have to head up to London on the train at the crack of sparrows tomorrow, so earlier this morning was my final opportunity for a lie-in… I managed to stay in bed till 10am. After getting up, I flicked on the telly to see how England had been getting on in the second morning of the New Year’s Test in South Africa. Wow. I mean, seriously, wow! That 399-run partnership between Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow might already be the highlight of England’s cricketing year even though that year is only three days old. The plaudits from ex and current players as well as pretty much every journalist you care to mention will be raining in for days to come and rightly so. I just hope England go on to secure the win and a 2-0 lead in the series.
